Braces Treatment

Braces are orthodontic devices used to straighten and align teeth, improve bite, and correct other orthodontic problems. They are typically made of metal, ceramic, or plastic brackets that are bonded to the teeth, and wires and bands that apply pressure to the teeth to move them into the desired position. Braces can be used to correct a variety of dental issues, including crooked or crowded teeth, gaps between teeth, overbites, underbites, and crossbites. Treatment with braces usually takes several months to several years, depending on the severity of the problem and the specific treatment plan. During the course of treatment, the braces may need to be adjusted periodically to maintain the correct level of pressure on the teeth. Proper care and maintenance of braces is important for their effectiveness and to prevent damage to the teeth and gums. After the braces are removed, a retainer may be recommended to help maintain the new position of the teeth.

Orthodontics is a specialised area of dentistry that focuses on the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of conditions affecting the alignment of the teeth and jaw. Orthodontists design and fit corrective devices like braces, clear aligners, expander plates, and headgear to help bring the teeth or jaw into alignment. Treatment can improve the appearance of the teeth, but it can also lead to better chewing and speech function and help protect teeth from damage or decay, in some cases.

To achieve these goals, the orthodontist uses a range of medical dental devices, including headgear, plates, and braces.
